Billionaire Jaswant Rai has decided to retract his applications that were awaiting resolution in the Court of Appeal regarding the management of Mumias Sugar Company. His initial challenge had been aimed at preventing his brother from taking control of the company.

For a considerable time, Mumias Sugar Company has been the focal point of a heated conflict between the Rai brothers, both of whom are prominent figures. Jaswant Singh Rai, who leads the Rai Group as its chairman, had previously teamed up with other contenders in an effort to gain control of a valuable lease, which was being pursued by his younger brother, Sarbi Singh Rai.

The decision to withdraw these legal cases, which had been obstructing the revival of the once-prominent sugar mill, coincides with recent threats made by President William Ruto. He warned of potential actions against those he believed were exploiting sugarcane farmers in the Western region.
Notably, Jaswant Rai is the owner of West Kenya Sugar Company Limited, a major player in the Kenyan sugar industry, controlling nearly half of the market share.

In parallel, Vartox Resource Inc, a Dubai-based firm, has also chosen to retract its application in the Court of Appeal. This application had previously contested the leasing of the Mumias Sugar factory to the Sarrai Group.
