Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has named a rehabilitated road in the County after her husband Murega Baichu.

Taking to her her social media on Saturday, the governor shared photos of the road under rehabilitation that connects Kirung'a to the Muthalankari area, calling it Murega Baichu Road.

"Murega Baichu Rd. Hakuna boiling tena," Mwangaza captioned the photos.

According to Citizen Digital, the road leads to her father-in-law's compound, perhaps the reason she named it after her husband.

Mwangaza has never shied away from recognizing her husband who has seen her get accused of nepotism leading to an attempted impeachment that she survived in December 2022.

A petitioner named Thuranira Selesion Mutuma made serious allegations against the governor in August 2023, alleging that the governor had misappropriated public monies by making improbable payments to close associates and family members.

Thunarina requested an investigation into the distribution of Ksh42.4 million to four people over the course of the previous year in a petition he submitted to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and filed with the Senate.

"Meru County Governor has been looting public coffers in a brutal manner through people related to her (nepotism), in total violation and contravention of Article 10 of the constitution," according to Selesio.

In the petition, it was said that the governor's relatives Mirriam Guantai, Rose Guantai, and Nephat Kinyua worked for her.

One of the individuals who received substantial sums of money from the county administration was her sister, Rose Guantai.

According to the petitioner, Rose got Ksh2,767,648 from the county in total between September 2022 and July 2023 as payment for housing and other unnamed items.

Records from the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS) proved that the county did indeed pay one Rose Guantai several times during the reviewed period.
