President William Ruto has mourned the death of Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima, praising her for the role she played in the fight for freedom.
On his social media channels, the president paid tribute to the freedom fighter, the only woman to get the rank of Field marshal during the Mau Mau uprising.

She served her community and made selfless sacrifices for the nation, according to the Head of State, who praised her for her courage and diligence.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Marshall Muthoni Kirima, a powerful figure of broad influence who fought for our freedom,” Ruto tweeted.
"We honour her heroic contribution to the freedom and development of our country and pray to God that he grants the family strength at this painful time,” he added.

Muthoni experienced health issues on Monday and was urgently taken to a Pangani hospital. She was declared dead on arrival.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also sent his condolences to the freedom fighter's family and praised her for being a fighter and supporting Dedan Kimathi.
