Gymnastics Ireland released a statement responding to a viral video of a black girl getting overlooked during an award ceremony.

In the video that is now identified to be from March 2022, the event shows a judge distributing participation medals to a long queue of young gymnasts while disregarding the only black girl.

In the video that has been seen millions of times, the judge is seen awarding awards while disregarding the single black girl in the lineup.

The photographer, coach, and other officials present for the award presentation remained silent. After the event, the girl's family notified the Ministry of Sport, Sports Ireland, the Olympic Federation, and the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.

The mother wrote to the sports ministry demanding action on the incident. Gymnastics Ireland offered an "apology" to the family after the video went viral. According to Gymnastics Ireland, a parent protested about alleged discriminatory behavior, and a settlement was reached in August of this year.

Ireland's athletic body initially told the family that the judge who awarded the medals was not discriminatory but that the judge had "tangled" up the medals.

Despite the fact that international organizations have expressed their support for the youngster, Irish institutions have been hesitant to respond. The judge promised to complete anti-racism training as part of a mediation agreement with the family.
