Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, has praised the Court of Appeal's ruling on the contested Kirima land, whose residents may be forced to leave after an early court order.

Owino expressed his opinions on social media, saying the decision benefits all parties. However, he pledged to ensure that no one is forced off the land that touches his Kasarani and Embakasi East constituencies.

"I want to thank the Court of Appeal for protecting and standing with the people of both Embakasi East and Kasarani... I did tell my people that you will not be evicted, and you shall never be evicted in this matter," Babu said.

The MP promised to fight for the locals and warned the Kirimas that he would keep fighting until the very end to prevent them from evicting the locals.

His response followed Court of Appeal Judge Mohammed Warsame's Wednesday recommendation that the parties in the case attempt to settle out of court. The court ordered the parties to resolve their differences and coexist peacefully.

"We don't want our orders to evict anybody. Lawyers, talk with your clients, sit together and resolve this matter. This is not a matter for the court and it's a matter that you can resolve and when there's consent people will be happy. You must negotiate and live together," the court said.

The court added that the parties in the case can come to an agreement that will be advantageous to all parties, and it urged the attorneys to exercise consideration when attempting to settle the disagreement.

The more than 5,000 people living on the contested land won't be forced to leave, as the three-judge bench has preserved the status quo.
