Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, has submitted a complaint at the Kware Police Station in Embakasi following an alleged attempt on his life during the azimio anti-government protests last Thursday.

According to Odinga's lawyer Jackson Awele, on the day of the incident, Azimio leader was leading his supporters in peaceful demonstrations through the Pipeline area of Embakasi South Constituency when his motorcade came across a contingent of armed police officers at Outer Ring road

According to Odinga's lawyer, Instead of permitting the procession to proceed onto Outer Ring Road, the officers recklessly fired teargas, shot live ammunition, and sprayed pink-coloured water at Odinga's convoy, eliciting an angry response from the protesters,

"The reckless and violent use of force by the police on the material day is well documented and within the knowledge of the police and the public at large," the complaint reads in part.

The complaint further notes that During the chaos, several police officers reportedly made their way to Odinga's car and fired about ten rounds of live ammunition.

"A subsequent examination of our client's vehicle in the aftermath of the attack shows that the vehicle was skillfully targeted with our client as the actual target," said Awele.

"In the event, there is reasonable cause to believe that specific officers acting on the command of the Inspector General of the National Police Service and/or the State, with malice aforethought, attempted to commit a felony, to cause the death of our client, an offence under the Penal code." he added.

The complaint says that the 'rogue' police officers' actions call for inquiries by the police department's Internal Affairs Unit, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Directorate of Criminal Inquiries (DCI), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. (ODPP).

Mr Odinga's lawyer said that thanks to the public's assistance, Odinga's team identified the two officers who allegedly discharged live ammunition at the former premier's car as Corporal Silas Kemboi and Police Constable Isaac Ndirangu.
