100-meter record holder Ferdinand Omanyala is set to commence his 2024 athletics season when he competes at the second Athletics Kenya track and field on Friday and Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The Africa 100-meter champion hopes for a strong start in a busy athletics calendar with major events lined up.

Among the events are the World Indoor Championships in March in Glasgow, World Relays Championships in May in the Bahamas and the Olympic Games in Paris in Paris, France in August.

The Commonwealth Games champion managed a seventh-place finish at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest before finishing third in the Diamond League final in Oregon.

Omanyala switched coaches at the end of the last campaign, where he is currently under the tutelage of Geoffrey Kimani.

The 28-year-old revealed recently that he is bracing for a busy campaign where he has already ruled out his participation at the upcoming African Games slated for March in Accra, Ghana.

“We have a busy schedule ahead from February to September. I can't afford to rest at all. This is the only time I have enough time to train properly between now and February, that is why I’m working closely with my trainer to make sure I’m ready for the task ahead,” said Omanyala who represents the National Police Service (NPS).
