The Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) has announced another wave of promotions for almost 36,000 teachers, just one week after promoting 14,000 instructors.

Teachers will be promoted across nine classes, according to a TSC circular, as the government strives to alleviate public concern about teacher stagnation.

The action, which comes a day after teachers' wage review talks struck a halt, has been interpreted as the commission's attempt to quell some angst among the teaching community.

Primary and secondary schools, as well as teacher training colleges, will benefit from the promotions.

There will be 12,716 openings for promotions in the senior master post, and 10,819 teachers will be promoted to senior instructors in conventional elementary schools.

Another 700 positions for senior teachers in special needs schools and 216 positions for senior lecturers in teachers' training institutions have been left available.

The commission also advertised 108 senior principal roles and 34 chief principal positions.

Those interested should apply through the TSC site by September 8th.

The announcement comes just one week after the TSC completed the promotion of 14,000 teachers who had been pending since the previous fiscal year.

The National Treasury has given Ksh.1 billion to the commission to carry out the 36,275 promotions.
