A trainee Catholic nun who went missing from Rongo Catholic Church on Thursday, October 24, was tragically discovered dead in a sewer pit at the Rongo parish sister convent. Gabriel Atieno, the vicar general of the Homa Bay diocese, reported that the body of the 23-year-old was found floating in the sewer pit by a nun who was on her way to the farm.
After Yvonne Jirangwa went missing on October 24, her fellow sisters reported her disappearance to the Rongo police when their search for her proved unsuccessful throughout the day. Her body was located on the afternoon of Sunday, October 27.
Atieno noted that the circumstances surrounding the trainee nun's death are still unclear. She had been actively involved in community service during her three years at Rongo parish, and her passing is a significant loss for both the church and her family. He emphasized that the church is collaborating with the police to determine the cause of her death.
