The government, through the Ministry of Education, has unveiled the 2024 calendar for pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools and teachers’ training colleges.
The pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools will open for the first term on January 8, 2024, and close on April 5, 2024, after 13 weeks of learning.
However, they will have a three-day half-term break from February 29 to March 3, before a three-week holiday at the end of the term from April 8-26.
Term two will run for 14 weeks, commencing on April 29 and ending on August 2, with half term set for June 20-23.
After that, beginning on August 5 and lasting for another three weeks, the students will be on vacation.

The remaining nine weeks of the school year, from August 26 to October 25, will prepare students for the October 28–31 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) exams.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams would then take place from November 4 and 22, 2025, during the lengthy December holiday, which will last from October 28 to January 3.
On the other hand, the teacher-training institutions will begin their first term on January 8 and run through April 5 before going on break from April 8 through April 26.
The second term will begin on April 29 and end on August 2, with the holidays falling between August 5 and 30.
Before the lengthy December vacations, which are scheduled to run from November 11 to January 3, 2025, the final term will last 11 weeks, from August 26 to November 8.
