On Wednesday, fraudulent attorney Brian Mwenda Njagi was formally charged with six charges of falsifying a document, creating a false document, and possessing a practicing certificate.

In front of Nairobi Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina, he entered a not-guilty plea to all of the allegations.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) could not be a victim in the lawsuit, according to its attorneys, John Khaminwa and Danstan Omari, who had previously objected to the organization's appearance in court.

"LSK cannot be part a parcel of this proceedings...they can only hire but not to be on record," the judge stated.

On October 18, DCI officers identified Njagi as a phony advocate and took him into custody.

Njagi is dealing with multiple incidents of identity theft and forgery, according to a statement made by Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Eric Theuri and published on the X platform (previously Twitter).

He also promised that the lawyers' organization would see to it that Njagi is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and that the case will serve as a warning to those who might want to follow in his footsteps.

“Brian Mwenda Njagi is now at DCI. We will ensure that he faces the full force of the Law. The evidence gathered so far points to several cases of forgery & identity theft," wrote Theuri.

"Further inquiries are ongoing. We are working closely with the DCI team to conduct thorough & extensive investigations. This case will be a deterrent for future masqueraders."

Danstan Omari, Njagi's attorney, had written to the DCI before his detention asking to be permitted to bring him in for questioning on Wednesday.

In the letter obtained by Citizen Digital, Omari stated that although his client is willing to assist with inquiries, he was currently involved in legal proceedings over another topic.

"Our client has with utmost concern been made aware of publicized controversies pertaining that have ensued from the recent announcements by the Law Society of Kenya. Further to the above, our client wishes to reiterate his unequivocal willingness to assist in any investigations (if any) all intent on setting the record straight," read the letter.
