Senator Richard Onyonka of Kisii County believes that President William Ruto will face difficulties if fuel prices reach Ksh. 300.

On Thursday, November 9, the president will deliver the state of the union address in front of the joint National Assembly and Senate session.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break on Thursday, Onyonka shared his thoughts and stated that he anticipates the president addressing the problem of excessive taxation, particularly in light of the fuel crisis.

“If fuel goes to 300 a litre, you people are in trouble, you are in a mess, Kenyans are feeling that they are being overtaxed, “he said.

The senator has faulted the government for its extravagance, despite the rising cost of living.

“You are overtaxing Kenyans, the president is making 46 trips abroad, and the deputy president going to Columbia is just walking in the park, your guys are driving fuel guzzlers, Landcruiser V8, “he continued.

Onyoka stated that in spite of directives to reduce spending from the budget, government employees continue to travel.

The senator continued by denouncing the government-to-government fuel agreement and calling it a "hoax" in which the parties exchanged money.

He claimed that the president was hesitant and placed the blame for living expenses on trivial matters like "handshakes," but when the county's debt ceiling was reached, the president was still in office.

The topic of fuel prices reaching 300 per liter has been a hot topic of discussion ever since Davis Chirchir, the Cabinet Secretary, stated that the Israel-Hamas Conflict may make fuel prices even more expensive globally.

In his testimony before the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) on Monday, CS Chirchir stated that the cost of petroleum products has increased from Ksh. 10,584 (70 USD) to Ksh. 13,608 (90 USD) per barrel, and that given the ongoing conflict, things may get worse.
