According to police, at least one person died, and a few others were injured when a portion of a roof collapsed at New Delhi’s airport at Terminal 1 on Friday.

The incident occurred amid heavy rains, with water leaking from various places in the roof.

Post-incident video footage showed heavy iron pillars lying on at least three cars with people trapped inside them. Those trapped were taken out after great efforts and later admitted to a local hospital.



A senior airport official confirmed that following the incident amid heavy rains, all operations at the airport were temporarily suspended until 14:00 hours (local time).

The airport is run and managed by a private firm.

According to the latest details, at least 16 departure flights and 12 arrival flights were cancelled at Delhi’s airport after the incident.
