Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly criticized the government’s alleged decision to withdraw Chief Justice Martha Koome’s security detail, calling for the immediate reinstatement of her bodyguards. Koome had accused the government, through the Ministry of Interior, of removing her state-provided security, a move she described as an attack on the Judiciary and the office of the Chief Justice.

In a statement on X on Friday, Kalonzo condemned the action, labeling it as an outrageous attempt to undermine the independence of Koome’s office and the Judiciary. "The withdrawal of security for the Chief Justice of Kenya is unacceptable and must be reversed immediately," said the Wiper leader. "This reprehensible act is meant to weaken the autonomy of the Chief Justice’s office and, by extension, the Judiciary and other independent institutions."

Musyoka also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of acting like a dictatorship and attempting to bring independent institutions under state control. He expressed confidence that such actions would be rejected by the Kenyan public. "The unconstitutional attack on Parliament, constitutional commissions, independent offices, and now the Judiciary, will be opposed and resisted by all law-abiding and determined Kenyans," he declared. "No amount of intimidation or unlawful tactics will restore the tarnished reputation of the corrupt and tyrannical Kenya Kwanza government. This regime simply doesn’t understand—Kenyans don’t want them!"

Despite Koome’s allegations, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja responded on Thursday, stating that the officers assigned to the Chief Justice had either been sent for training after promotions or transferred to other stations as part of normal procedure. He added that other officers had been reassigned to Koome’s security detail while the previous officers prepared for their courses, citing poor coordination as the reason for the gap in security coverage.
