Kilifi County has installed internet connection in public places within the County to help residents tap into the digital economy and promote digital transformation.

The County unveiled a public Wi-Fi at Mazingira Park in Kilifi town on Tuesday.

The installation comes a few weeks after Charo Wa Mae and Oloitiptip markets were instated with Wi-Fi.

Speaking during the launch, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro stated that digital transformation is at top of his agenda for the people.

Further, he revealed that he targets to provide an internet connection to Kilifi residents as a tool to spur talent, creativity, arts, and innovation.

Mung'aro also revealed that the free internet will ensure that the County remains economically competitive and will promote e investments that target mainly the digital space.

“ We have invested in a secure, fast, and reliable internet by providing free Wi-Fi zones in parts of Kilifi town and Malindi,” he said.

Mung'aro stated that the county would keep making significant investments in ICT to maintain its position as a leader in the digital revolution.

The majority of government services, he continued, are moving online, so offering free internet will make it easier for individuals to access those services without having to go to an office.

Additionally, he stated that internet connectivity will enhance the uptake of e-government services and promote the utilization of internet services by the youth.

Mung'aro gave the public the assurance that other sites would be built in significant towns including Malindi, Mariakani, Mazeras, Mtwapa, and Watamu with the aim of reaching more markets, technological hubs, and social halls.
