The opposition has demanded an inquiry into the Kenya Revenue Authority due to the government's failure to pay employees' salaries on time.

The probe should be broadened to include people and processes at the National Treasury and the Central Bank of Kenya, according to Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader in the National Assembly, to figure out what went wrong.

He said that close action needs to be taken and a thorough look at what's going on at revenue collection points and revenue sources like Kenya Airports Authority, courts, customs, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), aids and grants, and revenue administration, as well as investigate government spending.

In a statement, Wandayi said it would not be right to let the government blame the situation on Covid-19, the war in Ukraine, and the general economic meltdown around the globe.

The Mp wondered how scrapped subsidies, increased taxes, and continued to borrow, only for our financial situation to get worse.

Wandayi said Azimio believes cash flow problems have been caused by corruption, tribalism, nepotism, incompetence, and theft at critical revenue collection points.

"Where are the proceeds from taxes and savings from scrapped subsidies are going?" he posed.
