Nairobi County has announced immediate board changes at Mama Lucy Hospital following worldwide condemnation of a horrific video of a 26-year-old woman giving birth on the hospital floor.

The County government's health, well-being, and nutrition office said on Monday that the occurrence was depressing and regrettable.

"The lady alighted at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital with her relatives on Saturday, April 15 at 5.20 p.m." The expecting mother complained of severe lower abdominal pain radiating to the back. "The patient also complained about not being able to feel regular baby movements," according to a portion of the statement.

The doctor on call is said to have suggested an ultrasound to validate the lack of foetal heartbeat, at which point the hospital's medical personnel and professionals reportedly informed the patient and her relatives of the ultrasound results, which showed that the baby had already died.

The Ultrasound scan confirmed that the patient died of intrauterine foetal death (IUFD) at 38 weeks and five days, according to the statement.

According to the statement, the patient suffered a stillbirth at 7:20 p.m.

"The medical team gave the individual with the baby and informed her that it had passed suddenly 2-3 days before delivery and her visit to the hospital," according to the statement.

According to the statement, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has personally spoken with the patient and her family.

The county acknowledged that the situation should have been handled more effectively and has nominated eight new members to the Mama Lucy Hospital board of directors.

Here are Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital's new Management Board.
