President William Ruto has urged African Countries to work in unison to confront their everyday challenges.
On Thursday in Moroni, during the 48th independence day celebration of the Comoros, he said the continent’s leadership must step forward and champion economic sovereignty.
According to the President, Africa must use regional solutions to solve its issues.
If Africa is to achieve free movement of people, the President urged the continent to do away with the restrictive visa rules.
He said the risky action will boost intra-African commerce and promote economic expansion.
“That is how we can take this commitment to freedom further,” he said.
Further, President Ruto said Kenya will remove visa requirements for the people of Comoros to boost trade between the two countries.
He added that the two countries will work together to address their shared challenges citing climate change, regional security and economic development.
“Together, we can harness our shared potential to sustainably create economic opportunities and foster innovation that leaves no one behind.”
The president tasked President Azali Assoumani to guide the African Union towards a fit-for-purpose state.
He urged the union to undergo reforms so that the AU Commission, AU organs, and specialised agencies can achieve their full potential.
