Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza who is presently confronting an impeachment motion in the County Assembly, has extended an appeal to the public, seeking prayers for both her and Meru County.
In a message shared on her social media accounts, Governor Mwangaza sought the support of Kenyans during a period when she is set to face a second impeachment.
A substantial portion of the Meru populace, including the MCAs, the Njuri Ncheke council of elders, and her former political rival Mithika Linturi, support the impeachment. Now, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture Mithika Linturi has provided insight into the reasons behind the impeachment decision.
Linturi alleged that Governor Mwangaza has been meddling with agriculture-related initiatives in the county and failing to facilitate efficient collaboration despite agriculture being a devolved function.
"The decision taken by the MCAs is the right one because we cannot run away from reality. As the Minister for Agriculture, I am required to work with counties, but this cannot happen in Meru," said Mr. Linturi.
Linturi underscored a particular incident where Governor Mwangaza inaugurated the Muthara Market, a project funded by the African Development Bank through the Ministry of Agriculture, without prior consultation.
Adding to her challenges, the influential Meru County Njuri Ncheke community has also voiced their endorsement for her impeachment, exacerbating her political difficulties. Josphat Murangiri, the Secretary General of Njuri Ncheke, asserted that Governor Mwangaza has operated autonomously, exacerbating divisions within Meru County.
The CS emphasized that the governor's actions had disrupted the harmony among the Meru people and their neighboring communities, a sentiment echoed by the Njuri Ncheke elders. They vowed not to endorse anyone who jeopardized this unity.
