Paris Saint-Germain defeated Toulouse 2-0 on Wednesday to win the Champions Trophy, and goals from Kylian Mbappe and Lee Kang-in in the first half of the game sealed the first trophy of the French season.

In the third minute, Lee gave PSG the lead at the Parc des Princes, setting up an uphill battle for Toulouse in his final game before leaving with South Korea to compete in the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Moments before the half, Mbappe added an incredible second goal, and Paris won the Champions Trophy for the tenth time in the previous eleven years."

Traditionally held as the season's opener, France's Super Cup has typically occurred overseas over the past 15 years, most recently in Tel Aviv at the start of the most recent campaign.

The match of this season was initially scheduled to take place in Thailand in August, but it was postponed and moved to PSG's stadium instead of a neutral location.

The current Ligue 1 champions, led by Luis Enrique, had the advantage due to home advantage as they scored the game's first goal through a strike from Lee following a cushioned first-time ball into the middle by Ousmane Dembele.

Lee's goal was his third of the year. He will probably play a significant part in South Korea's quest to win the Asian Cup for the first time since 1960.

After winning the French Cup the previous season, Toulouse entered the match and came dangerously close to tying the score late in the first half when Thijs Dallinga's shot was deflected onto the post by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Instead, Mbappe, whose contract expires at the end of the season and allows him to negotiate terms with other teams, scored another goal for PSG just before the half. This was after he received a pass from Bradley Barcola and finished superbly to score his 22nd goal in all competitions this season.

Toulouse escaped further goals when Achraf Hakimi struck the crossbar with a second-half free-kick. PSG introduced Lucas Beraldo for his first game after the young Brazilian defender's transfer from Sao Paulo.

He replaced Milan Skriniar, who hobbled off due to an injury and will be sidelined for some time.

Hakimi is now leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco—expected to be one of the favorites will be playing in the Ivory Coast.

The Asian Cup final occurs one day before the AFCON final on February 11.

Hakimi and Lee will be able to play for PSG again shortly before the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match against Real Sociedad on February 14, assuming they represent their countries to the fullest.
