Rwandan President Paul Kagame has endorsed Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the top post of the African Union Commission(AUC) chairperson.

Speaking on Tuesday, President Kagame promised to support Odinga’s bid, a move that would help his candidacy.

Kagame says Raila won’t be unfamiliar while he works for the African Union Commission based on his previous experiences.

“I do speak with Raila Odinga. I know his struggles even when I was the African Union chairperson in 2018 and He was representing the Commission on Infrastructure for the continent. He did a good job .We give him our support and wish him all the best,” Kagame said.

Kagame who previously served as the chair of the African Union from 2018 to 2019 met Odinga in Kigali, Rwanda where he vowed to continue supporting Odinga even when he gets the AU chairmanship job.

Odinga said he is ready for the job after former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo also endorsed him to take up the position.

He affirmed that he will protect the continent's interests for shared unity, progress and prosperity.

“Had an insightful conversation with President Paul Kigame in Kigali, diving into regional and Pan African ideals. We are committed to African unity and solidarity for shared prosperity and progress,” Odinga stated.
